About the RBT Behavior Reduction Domain
Behavior reduction is a critical component of ABA practice. RBTs must understand how to implement reinforcement-based strategies, extinction, and other evidence-based procedures to decrease challenging behaviors while always prioritizing client dignity and wellbeing.
Antecedent Interventions
These modify the environment BEFORE a behavior occurs to prevent it from happening. Examples include environmental modifications, non-contingent reinforcement (NCR), and high-probability instruction sequences.
Differential Reinforcement
Differential reinforcement procedures reduce problem behavior by delivering reinforcement for a specific desired behavior (DRA, DRI, DRO, DRL) while withholding it for the target problem behavior.
Extinction
Extinction involves withholding the reinforcer that previously maintained a behavior. It is often combined with differential reinforcement for best effect.
