About the RBT Professional Conduct Domain
Professional conduct and ethics are fundamental to all work done by a Registered Behavior Technician. The BACB's RBT Ethics Code outlines the responsibilities RBTs have toward clients, supervisors, and the public.
Scope of Practice
RBTs must work within their defined scope of practice under the supervision of a qualified BCBA or BCaBA. RBTs should never implement treatment modifications, make diagnostic decisions, or take clinical actions beyond their designated role.
Supervision Requirements
The BACB requires RBTs to receive ongoing supervision from a qualified supervisor. Supervisors must observe RBTs regularly and sign off on their work at the required frequency.
Dual Relationships and Boundaries
RBTs must avoid dual relationships that could compromise the therapeutic relationship. This includes avoiding personal relationships with clients and their families outside of the professional service context.
